You play the young players to get some experience, that's true. But the real value of playing them now would be so that the new GM and the new coach can get some game film on the younger guys for evaluation. You could cut down on rebuilding time by playing them now and evaulating the film before FA and the draft. The alternative is that you play them next season and evaluate them as you go along. We could save a year on some of these guys.
